According to TÜİK July 2026 data, the total number of motor vehicles in Turkey reached 34.7 million, while the number of electric vehicles reached 464 thousand. In the average vehicle age of provinces, the difference between East and West draws attention, with Şırnak having an average age of 6.2, becoming the province with the youngest vehicle fleet in Turkey; Burdur, at the end of the list, took the title of the oldest fleet with an average age of 21.8.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced vehicle statistics for the end of July 2026. The total number of motor vehicles in Turkey reached 34 million 476 thousand 396; the province with the youngest vehicle fleet was Şırnak, while the province with the oldest was Burdur.

According to the announced data, automobiles constituted more than half of the vehicles in traffic, followed by motorcycles, light trucks, and tractors, respectively. While approximately one-third of the country's total vehicle stock was concentrated in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, the rapid increase in the number of electric vehicles also drew attention.

NUMBER OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES REACHED 464 THOUSAND

Electric vehicles, the symbol of transformation in transportation, continue to increase their presence on Turkish roads. According to TÜİK data, as of mid-2026, the total number of electric vehicles across Turkey reached the 464 thousand mark.

SHARP AGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EAST AND WEST

One of the most striking topics in the statistics was the average age of automobiles by province. While the average vehicle age in provinces in the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions remained significantly below (younger than) the Turkish average, the opposite was observed in the inner parts of Central Anatolia, the Aegean, and the Black Sea regions.

YOUNGEST FLEET IN ŞIRNAK

Şırnak took the top of the list by a wide margin. With an average automobile age of 6.2, Şırnak earned the title of the province with Turkey's newest vehicle park. Şırnak was followed by these provinces:

  • Bingöl: 8.8
  • Tunceli: 9.0

OLDEST FLEET IN BURDUR

The city with Turkey's oldest automobiles on the roads was Burdur, with an average age of 21.8. Other provinces with intense agricultural activities and settled populations also stood out with their older vehicle stock:

  • Kütahya: 21.1
  • Karaman: 20.8

WHAT IS THE SITUATION IN THE THREE BIG CITIES?

Among the metropolises, Istanbul, despite its enormous vehicle population, was among the provinces that managed to keep its fleet young with an average of 9.5. The other representatives of the three big provinces, Ankara and Izmir, seemed to have an older vehicle park compared to Istanbul, but followed a course parallel to Turkey overall:

  • Istanbul: 9.5
  • Izmir: 13.9
  • Ankara: 14.2
