In the program titled "Turkey's Quantum Age Begins: Introduction Ceremony of Turkey's First Quantum Computer," held at TOBB ETU Technology Center, Yılmaz stated that they have adopted the national technology move as a state policy under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, thus demonstrating a strong will to become a technology-producing country, especially in the defense industry. Emphasizing that a strong economic structure is created through advancements in science and technology and the dissemination of these advancements across all areas of the economy and social life, Yılmaz expressed that Turkey is progressing confidently on this path. Yılmaz highlighted that increasing domestic production in strategic areas such as defense industry, space, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and quantum technologies is a fundamental requirement for creating the nation's prosperity and global competitiveness, stating, "Technological advancement means not only producing innovations but also building a new development mechanism by including all segments of society in this transformation. The national technology move aims to secure not only today but also our tomorrows by establishing this structure." Pointing out that we are going through a period of intense developments, risks, and uncertainties at regional and global levels, Yılmaz emphasized that Turkey needs to stand on its own feet during a process where the reliability of international law and institutions has diminished. "IT IS DESCRIBED AS A REVOLUTION IN THE WORLD OF TECHNOLOGY"Yılmaz drew attention to the fact that with the introduction of the 5-qubit quantum computer QuanT at TOBB ETU Technology Center, Turkey has entered the ranks of the few countries with quantum computer technology, stating that this will also contribute to the development of the quantum technology ecosystem and will strengthen and carry this ecosystem into the future. Stating, "We are preparing for the 2025 International Year of Quantum Science and Technology declared by UNESCO with great faith and strong determination," Yılmaz expressed his belief that international cooperation opportunities will increase during this period and that Turkey's scientific leadership will strengthen. Yılmaz indicated that they will continue with stronger R&D centers in the future and will also strengthen public-private cooperation, continuing his remarks as follows: "Quantum computers are described as a revolution in the world of technology with their capacity to solve complex problems by far exceeding the processing power of classical computers. Many circles predict that the quantum revolution will fundamentally change humanity's perspective on technology and will deeply shape the world of science and industry in the coming years. Quantum computers have the potential to be game-changers not only in strategic areas but also in sectors such as health, finance, sensor technologies, and advanced materials development. For this reason, every country has started to create its own domestic quantum technology roadmap, and countries making progress in this technology have begun to impose commercial restrictions on critical components to maintain a monopoly." "IT WILL ENABLE US TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE ON A GLOBAL SCALE"Yılmaz explained that Turkey shaped its own roadmap in this regard in 2020 and has been implementing this plan step by step, stating that superconducting technologies are of critical importance and that superconducting chips will be one of the main agenda items of the upcoming period. Yılmaz expressed that the world of quantum computers offers a new generation of technology opportunities for young people, stating: "Your involvement in this field will not only contribute to our country's scientific future but will also enable us to make a difference on a global scale. QuanT will provide you with the opportunity to gain practical knowledge about quantum technology and take your first steps in this field. As today's university students, you are the scientists, entrepreneurs, and leaders of tomorrow. We must never forget that great successes begin with great dreams and self-confidence. Some circles may try to create a pessimistic atmosphere. There may be those who are trying to direct our youth to foreign countries to provoke brain drain. However, I want to emphasize this: Young people, our qualified human resources are our greatest asset. Neither financial power nor underground or above-ground resources, nor minerals... In today's world, our greatest power that will make a difference is you, our young minds. It is also our fundamental duty to connect our people with every opportunity for the strong future of our country and nation." "I BELIEVE WE WILL ALSO BUILD OUR HIGH-CAPACITY QUANTUM COMPUTER"Yılmaz stated that quantum computers will continue to be developed, expressing that these devices will have the capacity to solve complex problems that classical computers struggle with, ranging from molecular simulations to artificial intelligence, optimization to cryptography, thereby providing innovations in critical sectors such as science, health, finance, and security, giving Turkey a strategic advantage in global competition. At the end of his speech, Yılmaz said, "With the support of our Presidency of Defense Industries, I wholeheartedly believe that we will also build our high-capacity quantum computer with the superconducting chip production facility to be established by ASELSAN and TOBB ETU, with the contributions of our other universities in the future." After the speeches, Vice President Yılmaz, along with the President of the Presidency of Defense Industries Haluk Görgün, the President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, and the accompanying delegation, examined "QuanT," Turkey's first quantum computer, and received information from the faculty members who developed the project.
