The most populous district in Turkey has become Esenyurt in Istanbul. With a population of 1,003,905, Esenyurt has surpassed many countries to take the top spot on the list. The second place is held by Şahinbey district in Gaziantep with 957,792 people, while Çankaya and Keçiören districts in Ankara ranked third and fourth with populations of 952,198 and 931,722, respectively. Esenyurt's population has exceeded the total populations of some countries such as Luxembourg, Montenegro, Malta, Iceland, and Greenland.
Turkey's population increased by 427,224 people in 2025 compared to the previous year, reaching 86 million 92 thousand 168 people. When examining the population distribution by districts, Esenyurt district of Istanbul topped the list with a population exceeding 1 million, surpassing many countries.

Another district of Gaziantep, Şehitkamil, is in fifth place with a population of 905 thousand 880.
