Turkey To Send 2Nd Batch Of Aid To Azerbaijan

Relief supplies include winter clothing, and hygiene stuff for the needy.

Turkey is all set to send a second batch of relief supplies for Azerbaijani civilians affected by ongoing clashes in the Upper Karabakh region.Four truckloads of aid containing winter clothing such as jackets, pullover, gloves and hats; blankets, items of personal hygiene, cleaning materials as well as disinfectants, will leave from Istanbul on Monday, according to the Turkish Red Crescent.Teams of the humanitarian organization, which are already distributing aid, will give out the supplies to the needy in the brotherly country.Meanwhile, delivery of items from the first batch is continuing since last Wednesday.Citizens have been taken care of in the city of Fuzuli, Guzanli district of Agdam province, and Tartar, Goranboy, Agjabadi, and Ganja regions. The Turkish Red Crescent is also running a donation campaign to help Azerbaijanis forced to abandon their homes due to Armenian aggression.Funds can be donated via its web page, 168 toll-free helpline, Turkish banks, or national postal service.
Upper Karabakh conflictRelations between the two former Soviet republics have been tense since 1991, when the Armenian military occupied Upper Karabakh, an internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan.Fresh clashes erupted on Sept. 27, and Armenia has since continued its attacks on civilians and Azerbaijani forces, even violating humanitarian cease-fire agreements. The OSCE Minsk Group -- co-chaired by France, Russia and the US -- was formed in 1992 to find a peaceful solution to the conflict, but to no avail.Turkey has supported Baku's right to self-defense, and demanded a withdrawal of the occupying forces.*Writing by Ahmet Gencturk -
