Turkish, Qatari Defense Ministers Meet In Doha

Turkey's defense minister met Sunday in Doha with his Qatari counterpart ahead of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's official visit to the country.

Hulusi Akar and Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah discussed bilateral and regional defense and security issues as well as defense industry cooperation.

Akar and al-Attiyah also expressed the will to increase military training cooperation between the two countries.

Erdogan will pay a two-day official visit to the Qatari capital Doha beginning Monday to attend the 7th meeting of the Turkey-Qatar Supreme Strategic Committee.

His visit comes at the invitation of Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Turkey's Communications Directorate said Sunday in a statement.

Ankara and Doha enjoy strong relations, particularly since the 2017 blockade of the Gulf country by Saudi Arabia and its neighbors.

The two countries have strengthened military and economic ties in recent years. -
