The 21 employees of the U.S. Government Efficiency Department (DOGE), led by famous billionaire Elon Musk, resigned with the statement, "We have sworn to serve the American people and uphold our commitment to the Constitution, but it has become clear that we can no longer fulfill these commitments."
It was reported that 21 employees of the Government Efficiency Department (DOGE), headed by businessman Elon Musk, resigned by refusing to use their expertise to "eliminate critical public services."
A BIG BLOW TO MUSK
In a joint resignation letter obtained by the Associated Press (AP), the 21 staff members stated, "We have sworn to serve the American people and uphold our commitment to the Constitution, but it has become clear that we can no longer fulfill these commitments."
The 21 DOGE employees emphasized that they would not use their expertise to "jeopardize essential government systems and the sensitive data of Americans and eliminate critical public services" as they submitted their resignation letters.
Employees described most of the individuals appointed by businessman Elon Musk to reduce the size of the federal government as "political ideologues lacking the necessary skills and experience," recalling that they had served in the U.S. Digital Service, which provided consulting services in information technology to federal agencies before being transferred to DOGE.
THEY SHARED THEIR EXPERIENCES
Employees reported that they were called for meetings by "young DOGE employees with limited technical knowledge and fans of Musk" wearing White House visitor badges, one day after President Donald Trump took office.
Employees noted that some of the young people "refused to introduce themselves, asked questions about their political views, and tried to pit colleagues against each other," sharing the view that this process posed "security risks." They also reported that 40 Digital Service personnel, who were "working to modernize critical services such as social security, veterans' services, healthcare, and disaster relief," were laid off in early February.
Employees warned that the dismissal of the 40 personnel "made Americans' data less secure," stating that approximately 65 individuals, including themselves, who remained in the Digital Service were transferred to DOGE.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Jonathan Kamens, one of the employees laid off earlier this month, told AP in an interview that he believed he was fired because he supported Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the presidential election and criticized Musk in conversations with colleagues.
Kamens stated, "I believe Elon Musk is not doing anything good. I believe that any data he can access will be used for inappropriate and harmful purposes against Americans." President Trump announced that he would adopt policies to "reduce federal bureaucracy and waste" during his second term, appointing billionaire businessman Elon Musk to head the newly established Government Efficiency Department (DOGE).
