Global trade wars continue in many sectors, particularly in steel, automotive, and chips. However, U.S. President Donald Trump is insistent on taking steps to escalate these wars further. Trump stated that tariffs on Canada and Mexico will be implemented "on time, as planned."
Trump announced that additional tariffs on Canada and Mexico will be implemented according to the planned schedule, despite the postponement. He gave clear messages on the subject during a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron at the White House. Trump stated, "Tariffs are proceeding on time, as planned."
"THEY BENEFITED FROM US"
Trump said that not only Canada and Mexico but many countries have taken advantage of the U.S., using the phrase "They benefited from us." U.S. President Trump added, "Everyone who allowed this to happen to our country should be ashamed of themselves."
BLAMED LEADERS
Describing it as a long-standing abuse, Trump said, "I don't even blame the other countries that did this. I blame our leaders for allowing this to happen. If they made these great deals with the U.S., if they benefited from the U.S. in terms of production, in almost every area, in every conceivable way, who can blame them?" Trump emphasized that all they wanted was reciprocity.
ADDITIONAL CUSTOMS DUTIES OFFICIALIZED
U.S. President Trump had imposed a 25% additional customs duty on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10% additional customs duty on imports from China with a decree signed on February 1. On February 3, Trump announced that the tariffs imposed on Canada and Mexico would be suspended for 30 days in exchange for increasing their border security.
