The argument between a motorbike courier and a building attendant over elevator use in Antalya was captured on a helmet camera. After the building attendant told the female courier she could not use the elevator and must take the stairs, a dispute erupted, and he pushed the young woman, preventing her from using the elevator.
In the Konyaaltı district of Antalya, during the evening hours the previous night, Zehra Yumakoğulları, working as a motorcycle courier, went to a site in Uluç Neighborhood to deliver an order placed by a customer through a platform.
Leaving her motorcycle inside the site and entering the apartment building, Yumakoğulları wanted to use the elevator to go to the address where she would deliver the order. She pressed the elevator call button, but after waiting a long time as the elevator stopped at every floor, she pressed the call button again. At that moment, a person from an upper floor called out to Yumakoğulları, who was waiting for the elevator, saying, "Don't press, brother, don't press."
ARGUMENT OVER ELEVATOR USE ERUPTS
Yumakoğulları replied to the voice from the upper floor that she was waiting for the elevator. A man, later identified as a building attendant, told her that the elevator was busy and that she should take the stairs. Then, an argument broke out between the man, who came down to the lower floor, and Yumakoğulları over elevator use. Yumakoğulları reacted to the man, who again told her to take the stairs. The argument, which started over elevator use, escalated to another level, and the unidentified man introduced himself as the building manager and told Yumakoğulları that if she did not remove her helmet, he would not let her into the building.
YOUNG WOMAN PUSHED
The man pushed the young woman and blocked her from using the elevator. Not wanting to argue further, Yumakoğulları began to walk up the stairs. Meanwhile, the man she argued with called out from behind, "Ha, well done. That's how you go on foot." After delivering the order from the apartment, Yumakoğulları went to the police station with footage from her helmet camera and filed a complaint against the man. Describing the incident, Yumakoğulları said, "When I entered the building, the elevator was on the upper floor. I pressed the button to call it, waited a while, but it didn't come. The elevator kept going down one floor and stopping, so I pressed it again."
"HE TOLD ME TO GO ON FOOT"
Stating that a stranger called out from the upper floor, Yumakoğulları said, "Someone upstairs shouted 'Don't press, don't press,' so I asked why I shouldn't press since I was going upstairs to deliver an order. He told me I had to go on foot. He said he was collecting trash, but I couldn't know that. Then he came down the stairs and started walking toward me. At that point, our verbal argument continued. Then he said I had to take off my helmet. When I said I wouldn't, he first grabbed my helmet, then my arm, and pushed me. After that, the verbal argument continued."
HE PREVENTED HER FROM USING THE ELEVATOR
The young woman said the man prevented her from using the elevator and detained her because she did not remove her helmet. "Since I couldn't use the elevator because he was blocking it, I went up the stairs and delivered my package. There, he made comments like 'Well done, that's how you go.' I said I would report him. After delivering the package, I left the building and called 112. The teams came, then I got a report and went to the police station. I filed a complaint against the man. It starts verbally, then continues with physical contact. No one can touch or push me like that," she said.
"WE ARE DOING OUR JOB"
Stating that motorcycle couriers are also human and that their goal is to earn a living through hard work, Yumakoğulları said, "It doesn't matter if you're a woman or a man; men are treated the same way. We all have one concern: we are at work. We deliver the orders assigned to us. We constantly face reactions like 'Is he a crook, a thief, what is he doing here?' Our clothes, motorcycle, license plate, everything is already visible. If I didn't have my camera, I probably wouldn't have evidence, and it could have gone further," she said.
