The United Nations expressed "deep concern" about the humanitarian situation in Gaza and called on the international community to take action.
The United Nations (UN) Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (UNISPAL) issued a written statement regarding Gaza.
"WE ARE DEEPLY CONCERNED"
The statement said, "As Israel's military operation in Gaza enters its 600th day, UNISPAL expresses deep concern over the increasing loss of life, deteriorating humanitarian emergency, catastrophic destruction and devastation, and the continuous obstruction of life-saving assistance to the Palestinian people."
The statement emphasized that the situation in Gaza leaves Palestinian civilians facing unbearable suffering, widespread and systematic deprivation, and mass displacement, and also opposed the Israel-U.S.-led Gaza Humanitarian Aid Foundation.
CALL FOR URGENT ACTION
The statement included, "This initiative is an attempt to render ineffective the UN and its field organizations that provide humanitarian aid and essential services to the Palestinian people in accordance with international humanitarian law, relevant UN resolutions, and humanitarian principles such as neutrality and independence."
In the statement, the destruction in Gaza and the forced displacement of civilians were described as "not only a humanitarian crisis but also a profound erosion of the human dignity of the Palestinian people." The international community was called upon to act decisively against the hunger, mass displacement, and deaths observed in Gaza.
The statement concluded, "What lies ahead is not a matter of capacity but rather political obstruction and the systematic violation of obligations under international law, including humanitarian and human rights law."
