Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa released a video message of thanks due to the US removing Syria from the list of 'state sponsors of terrorism.' In a video posted on his own social media account, al-Sharaa said, 'I congratulate the Syrian people on Syria's official removal from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, and I thank President Donald Trump for this historic decision.'

BOTH SYRIA AND HTS REMOVED FROM BLACKLIST
The US Department of the Treasury announced that Syria has been officially removed from the "state sponsors of terrorism" list, where it had been since 1979.
In a written statement from the Department, it was announced that, in line with US President Donald Trump's Syria policy, the country was officially removed from the "state sponsors of terrorism" list, and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) was also removed from the "Specially Designated Global Terrorist" (SDGT) status.
In this context, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), under the US Department of the Treasury, also removed HTS from the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List.
FIRST REACTION FROM AL-SHARAA
In a written statement following the decision, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa said that Syria has left its painful past behind and embarked on the path of development, reconstruction, and rebuilding, noting that the Syrian people achieved another significant success with the lifting of sanctions and the end of restrictions. Al-Sharaa had said, "I ask Almighty God to give us the strength to serve you."
VIDEO THANKS TO TRUMP
Al-Sharaa thanked Trump with a video post shared on the US-based social media platform X. In his video post on his own account, al-Sharaa also added the note: "I congratulate the Syrian people on Syria's official removal from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, thank Mr. President Donald Trump for this historic decision, and express my gratitude to all our brothers and friends who stand by Syria and the Syrians."
"SANCTIONS LIFTED, CHAINS UNBOUND"
Al-Sharaa used the following statements in his video thank-you message:
"In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you.
Today, Syria wipes away the black stain on its shoulders and, with its own hands, tears a page from its painful past, embarking on the path of development, reconstruction, and building.
Great people of Syria, you have succeeded once again. The sanctions on you have been lifted and the chains have been unbound.
I pray to Almighty God to help us serve you. I extend my sincerest gratitude to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and to all friendly and supportive nations standing by us.
May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you."
COUNTRIES ON THE LIST
The US added Syria to the "state sponsors of terrorism" list in 1979. Iran, Cuba, and North Korea remain on this list.
