Smartphone manufacturers are gradually removing accessories from their packaging as part of their environmental policies. Recently, it has been reported that some brands have started to remove the charging cable from their phone boxes as well.
Smartphone manufacturers have been simplifying their box contents for years to contribute to the environment and reduce their carbon footprint. In the past, phone boxes contained many accessories such as headphones, chargers, and cables, but now they only include the basic product. With the latest development, the removal of the charging cable has also become a hot topic.
THE TRANSFORMATION STARTED WITH APPLE
The process of removing accessories from boxes began with a decision made by Apple as part of its environmentally friendly policy. The company first removed headphones and then charging adapters from the box contents.
RADICAL MOVE FROM SONY
One of the brands that implemented a similar practice after Apple is Sony. Users report that only the user manual came out of the box of the Xperia 10 VII model phone, and that there was not even a charging cable included.
Recently, Apple also took a similar step by removing the charging cable from the boxes of the AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 3 models.
CONSUMER REACTION, ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FROM COMPANIES
This change, seen as an environmentally friendly step in the short term, is causing debate among consumers. Many users describe the lack of basic accessories in the boxes of high-priced products as "unnecessary savings."
