Shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he was leaving it up to White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia to decide whether to continue in her post due to allegations leveled against her and criticism in the press, a notable development occurred. A White House official speaking to the U.S. press announced that Zacharia, who took office on October 12, had been dismissed.

US President Donald Trump answered questions from members of the press before leaving the White House for an election rally he will attend in the state of Georgia.

SIGNAL THAT ZACHARIA MAY STEP DOWN FROM HER POST

Trump argued that an “intense negative campaign” was being waged in the media against Katie Zacharia, who had just started in the new White House spokesperson role, and said that these reports had worn Zacharia down.

The US President commented: “I just spoke with Katie. I asked her, is this job right for you? Katie has been treated very badly and extremely unfairly by the media. She is a very good person, a truly very good person. I asked, do you have to go through this?”

Trump noted that he had not terminated Zacharia's role as White House spokesperson, but had left the decision to her on whether to continue in the position.

AND SHE WAS DISMISSED

Shortly after Trump’s remarks, an unnamed White House official speaking to the US press said that Zacharia had been dismissed.

CONTROVERSIES OVER HER LAW DEGREE AND LAW LICENSE

Controversies over how Zacharia, whom Trump introduced to the public as a “lawyer,” obtained her law degree and law license received wide coverage in the American media. It was alleged that Zacharia had not passed the bar exam and had no bar registration. Zacharia, however, argued that she obtained her law license when she moved to China.

Zacharia had officially started in the White House spokesperson role on October 12.
