Last year, on February 28, during his meeting at the White House, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky argued with U.S. President Donald Trump in front of the cameras, and he has now taken revenge for that fight. Zelensky pointed out the age difference between him and Trump, stating that he sees the U.S. President as a father figure and approaches him as one would a father. Zelensky also expressed that Trump sees him as a son, even if he is not his "favorite."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky used striking and humorous expressions regarding his relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump. Speaking to the France-based radio channel France Inter, Zelensky mentioned the age difference between the two leaders, stating that his relationship with Trump has a different dynamic.
"MAYBE HE SEES ME AS HIS SON"
While describing his relationship with Trump, Zelensky said:
"I cannot have the same relationship with President Donald Trump as I do with Joe Biden. There is an age difference between us, and he seems to be avoiding me a bit... I approach him as one would a father. Maybe because of the age difference, he sees me as his son."
HE LAUGHED IN RESPONSE TO THE QUESTION
When the host laughed and asked, "Do you really think he sees you as his son?" Zelensky also laughed and replied:
"I don't know... Maybe I'm not his 'favorite' son, but why not? After all, I am a son! By the way, I know he enjoys meeting and communicating with me."
"I AM A HEAD OF STATE"
Zelensky also implied that Trump might be uncomfortable with some of his statements, making the following assessment:
"Maybe some of my harsh remarks or actions don't sit well with him, but I am a head of state, and I defend the interests of my country."
Born on January 25, 1978, Zelensky is 48 years old, while Trump, born on June 14, 1946, is about to turn 80.
THE TENSE MEETING AT THE WHITE HOUSE CAME TO MIND
Zelensky's words brought to mind the events that occurred during his visit to the White House last year.
On February 28, during his visit to the White House, Zelensky and Trump discussed the mineral agreement planned between Ukraine and the U.S. However, the agreement was not signed during the meeting.
Following a dispute during the meeting, the joint press conference that was planned was also canceled.
After the meeting, the Ukrainian delegation was taken to a separate room from the Oval Office. Here, U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed the Ukrainian delegation that they needed to leave the White House.
This meeting has been recorded as one of the most challenging moments in Zelensky's life.
