New regulations have been introduced regarding mandatory traffic insurance, which affects millions of vehicle owners in Turkey. From now on, drivers who purchase new vehicles will retain their current no-claims bonus, while those who renew their policies early will lose one step in their no-claims bonus if they have an accident. The regulation will come into effect on January 1, 2026.

Significant changes have been made to the mandatory traffic insurance that concerns millions of vehicle owners in Turkey. With the circular published by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, important rules have been introduced for both drivers who will purchase new vehicles and policyholders who will renew their policies.
A NEW SYSTEM HAS ARRIVED
In the current application, when drivers purchase a new vehicle, their insurance automatically started from the 4th tier. This situation was unfair to drivers who have been using their vehicles without accidents for years. With the new regulation, drivers will be able to continue from their existing tier. For example, if a driver in the 8th tier purchases a new vehicle, their policy will also be issued from the 8th tier.
RISKY DRIVERS WILL LOSE ADVANTAGES
A separate regulation has been introduced for drivers who frequently have accidents and are in the 1st tier. Now, when these drivers purchase a new vehicle, they will not automatically be elevated to the 4th tier; their current status, which is the 1st tier, will be maintained.
ATTENTION TO THOSE RENEWING THEIR POLICIES EARLY
An important change has also been made for drivers who renew their policies before the due date. The no-claims discount will not be preserved for those who have accidents until the effective date of the new policy. In such cases, the driver's tier will be reduced by one level.
SECURITY FOR ACCIDENT-FREE DRIVERS
With the circular, the system for accident-free drivers has been made fairer. While no-claims discounts are preserved, measures have been taken to prevent those who frequently have accidents from gaining an advantageous position. The new rules will come into effect on January 1, 2026.
