FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced a historic change regarding the World Cup during his speech at the European Club Association (ECA) General Assembly.
'IT CAN BE EXTREMELY HOT'
Gianni Infantino stated that the World Cup could be played at the end of the year in the future. Noting that extreme heat during the summer months makes football difficult in some countries, Infantino said, 'We are already delving into the details of this issue, and we are constantly discussing it. This is not just about the World Cup; it is a general evaluation topic. In some European countries, playing football in July can be extremely hot, so maybe we need to reconsider.'
'WE MUST BE OPEN-MINDED'
Continuing his remarks, Infantino stated, 'June is the best month to play football, but it is not being utilized effectively in Europe. There may be ways to better optimize the calendar, but we are still in the discussion phase, and we will see when we reach conclusions. We just need to be open-minded.'
'MARCH AND OCTOBER'
The FIFA President commented on the new dates for the World Cup, saying, 'The reality is that if you want to play football all over the world at the same time, you probably need to do it in March or October. Because in December, it is not possible to play football in some parts of the world, and in July, it is not possible in other parts. When discussing national team tournaments, player release schedules, and club organizations, we must consider all these factors and establish a balance that will benefit everyone. There is a lot at stake.'
