At the DEM Party Group Meeting in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), the chanting of "Biji Serok Apo" in favor of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan drew criticism. AK Party spokesperson Ömer Çelik criticized such behavior, stating that it would "create a reaction among citizens." On the other hand, DEM Party spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan defended the slogans as "a highly democratic right."
Last Tuesday, a development that drew reactions occurred in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. During the DEM Party Group Meeting, slogans in favor of the terrorist organization PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan were shouted: "Biji Serok Apo".
ÖMER ÇELİK: THIS BEHAVIOR SHOULD NOT BE ENGAGED IN
Following the MYK meeting of his party, AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik made a statement regarding the issue, saying, "High political wisdom and a solution-oriented approach require the production of an integrated political mind and political discourse regarding the process. If you say, 'I want to be in favor of the solution, but I want to make my own discourse the main color of the process outside of a common discourse,' different discussions will arise. Behaviors that will provoke reactions from citizens should not be engaged in. Shadows fall on the main idea, and the main idea becomes damaged," he stated.
AYŞEGÜL DOĞAN: A HIGHLY DEMOCRATIC RIGHT
Following this statement, a noteworthy comment came from the DEM Party, which had drawn attention. Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan defended the chanting in favor of Öcalan with the words "A highly democratic right," stating, "Those who come to the group of every political party can shout slogans to convey their demands. Slogans are shouted in every political party's group. It is a highly democratic right. We do not have a specific and secret agenda. Asking for the opening of paths where Öcalan can lead in this matter is a highly democratic right. Those who attended our group meeting that day and those who shouted slogans there did not do so secretly. They have been doing this openly for years, at great costs, at the cost of lives, imprisonment, exile, investigation, prosecution, and detention," she added.
"WE HAVE ONLY ONE AGENDA"
Continuing her words, Doğan stated, "This is an expression of a reality," adding, "Being disturbed by this or evaluating it in another way can only be something that those who do not understand the process would do. To speak like this on behalf of the ruling party while being part of the process essentially requires us to ask the question, 'Is there another agenda?' We do not have a secret agenda. We do not have an agenda that we place before anything else. We have only one agenda; dialogue and negotiation, peace, and democratic solution. It is that clear for us," she concluded.
