The meteorology department announced that temperatures will drop across Turkey due to a cold wave that will be effective nationwide until the weekend. Meteorology expert Orhan Şen issued a warning about snowfall over the weekend, emphasizing the need for caution, especially in higher elevations. Şen stated that they expect snow in the mountains of Erzurum, Erzincan, Ilgaz, Erciyes, Palandöken, and the highlands of the Black Sea region over the weekend.
According to the data from the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM), due to the cold air system affecting Turkey, air temperatures are 3 to 6 degrees below seasonal norms. Authorities expect this cool weather to continue its effects in the coming days, including the weekend.
STRONG RAINFALL WARNING ISSUED
A strong rainfall warning has been issued, especially for the Western Black Sea and its surroundings. Heavy rainfall is expected on Friday and Saturday along the coastal strips of the Western Black Sea and in the northern districts of Istanbul. The main provinces where rainfall will be effective are indicated as the northern districts of Zonguldak, Bartın, and Düzce.
On Sunday, the level of danger increases. MGM predicts that the intensity of rainfall will further increase in the northern parts of Zonguldak, Bartın, and Sinop. Experts warned citizens living in these areas to "be cautious against floods and water inundations."
BE CAREFUL THIS WEEKEND
According to regional rainfall forecasts, scattered showers are expected across the Black Sea region tomorrow (Friday). On Saturday, it has been reported that rainfall will spread to the eastern Marmara, the Black Sea Region, and the northern parts of Central Anatolia. On Sunday, after the rainfall system is effective intermittently across the entire Black Sea, in the eastern part of Eastern Anatolia, and in Southeastern Anatolia, it is anticipated that the system will leave the country at the beginning of the week.
SNOWFALL WARNING FROM ORHAN ŞEN
On the other hand, Prof. Dr. Orhan Şen issued a snowfall warning for the weekend. Indicating those regions, Şen warned citizens who will go outside in advance. Orhan Şen stated that it will snow in the mountains of Anatolia on Sunday, saying, "On Sunday, it will snow in the mountains of Anatolia. For example, snowfall will be seen on Saturday evening and Sunday on Ilgaz Mountain, Erciyes Mountain, Palandöken, and the highlands of the inner parts of the Black Sea. We do not expect it to be in the city center, but it may still be seen as sleet in Erzurum and Erzincan. Besides, temperatures in the east have dropped significantly. There are drops of up to 6-7 degrees in the east, but this is a temporary drop. Starting from Monday, temperatures will rise again above the average across Turkey. Today, Istanbul is cold due to the rainfall. Rainfall will continue in the Anatolian side until this evening." he said.
On Saturday, Şen pointed out that snowfall will be effective in the Western Black Sea, stating, "Rainfall is strong across the entire Western Black Sea. Let's be careful with the rainfall here on Saturday. We do not want to experience the water inundations that occurred 3-4 years ago along the Western Black Sea coasts again. Rainfall will be strong on Saturday." he warned.
