During heavy rains and thunderstorms in the state of Odisha, India, 15 people lost their lives due to lightning strikes. Authorities have warned that the weather conditions in the region may persist.

The weather conditions affecting many districts such as Koraput, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, and Gajapati in the eastern Indian state of Odisha have negatively impacted daily life in the region, resulting in the deaths of 15 people due to lightning strikes.

CLAIMING HUNDREDS OF LIVES EVERY YEAR

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning events may continue across the state. Authorities have advised the public to be cautious and take necessary precautions. Every year, with the onset of the monsoon season in India, hundreds of people lose their lives due to lightning strikes. In Odisha, which is prominent in weather-related fatalities, between 200 and 400 people die each year as a result of lightning strikes.
