The Competition Authority has launched an investigation into 39 dairy companies on the grounds that they are pressuring livestock businesses that supply raw milk through the "feed in exchange for milk" practice. Among the companies under investigation are Turkey's major brands such as Pınar, İtimat, Sek, Sütaş, and Yörsan.
In a statement made on the website of the Competition Authority, it was noted that the Board's investigations into the dairy and dairy products sector continue unabated.
In the statement, it was mentioned that the Board has taken action against the long-debated "feed for milk" practice in the dairy sector, stating, "In its investigations, the Authority found that some industrialists imposed a condition on producers from whom they purchased raw milk, stating that they would only buy the milk if the producers purchased the feed sold by the industrialists, that the feed-milk parity was not adhered to, and that payments were delayed to the detriment of the producers. It was determined that while milk was purchased from producers at a low price, the feed was sold to the producers at a price higher than the market price, and that the feed-for-milk practice, which should be based on voluntariness, was being enforced."
"ADMINISTRATIVE FINES WILL BE IMPOSED ON INDUSTRIALISTS"
In this context, it was reported that an investigation has been initiated against 39 companies, and it was emphasized that the Board has also made it mandatory for industrialists to comply with certain rules, highlighting that producers cannot be forced to buy feed. It was pointed out that producers who wish to voluntarily purchase feed will not be imposed any brand or quantity requirements. The statement noted, "The terms of the Raw Milk Production Contract regarding the payment period, base price, premium, parity, and voluntariness will be adhered to. Otherwise, administrative fines will be imposed on industrialists. Additionally, the Board has required the relevant companies to communicate an information document containing the rights of producers in this matter to all raw milk producers. Thus, the Authority aims to increase the bargaining power of producers and prevent them from being subjected to unfair conditions."
