The budget message shared on a page for civil servants, which included "monthly income of 110,000 TL, 15,000 TL rent, 25,000 TL car loan, and 25,000 TL gold savings," sparked debate due to the realism of the rent amount and the choice to save while simultaneously making loan payments.
A person who sent a message to a social media page aimed at civil servants stated that they have been married for three years and that both of them work as civil servants from 8 to 5, mentioning that their monthly household income is 110,000 TL.
Here is the calculation made by the person who sent the message based on the money coming into their home;
- Rent: 15,000 TL
- Loan installment for a newly purchased vehicle: 25,000 TL
- Remaining after expenses: 70,000 TL
- Monthly savings allocated for gold: 25,000 TL
- Food/home shopping, etc.: 45,000 TL (remaining amount)
The message was shared with a note saying, "please keep it confidential."
Following the post, a heated discussion began among users.
Some of the highlighted comments are as follows;
- Where is a 15K rent?
- If you can save, why are you paying loan interest?
- Where is a 15K rent, brother, is it Syria?
- If they come to Istanbul, they can only make ends meet.
- Civil servants are still crying about low salaries.
- Actually, two people work, but one person receives the salary.
In the comments, the realism of the 15,000 TL rent amount and the simultaneous ability to save while paying loan interest became the focus of criticism. Some users referred to rent levels in different cities, while others generalized based on the purchasing power of civil servant salaries.
