The suspect who killed Prosecutor Ercan Kayhan, Mustafa Can Gül, stated in his testimony at the courthouse, "I was working in this place. We had an argument before. After I left my job, I didn't cut ties with this restaurant. I continued to come and go here. I didn't go there last night to kill the prosecutor. When I saw him there, we talked about the past. We argued with the prosecutor, and he cursed at me. I lost control and stabbed him."
In an incident that occurred at a restaurant in Çekmeköy, Prosecutor Ercan Kayhan (58) was stabbed in the throat by Mustafa Can G. (19), who was previously known to have a feud with him. While the suspect was taken into custody, Prosecutor Kayhan lost his life at the scene. It was determined that Mustafa Can G., who was caught at the scene with the weapon, had three criminal records and had spent some time in prison, and it was learned that the suspect had worked as a waiter at the restaurant where the incident took place for two years.
The incident occurred around 21:15 at a restaurant in Ömerli Neighborhood. Prosecutor Ercan Kayhan, who was assigned to the General Investigation Office at the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan, was stabbed in the throat by Mustafa Can G., who was previously known to have a feud with him. Emergency medical teams that arrived at the address upon notification determined that Kayhan had lost his life. With the efforts of the police teams, the suspect Mustafa Can G. was quickly apprehended and taken into custody. An investigation into the incident has been initiated.
STATEMENT FROM MINISTER TUNÇ
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç, who made a statement on social media regarding the matter, said, "The death of Prosecutor Ercan Kayhan, who was attacked with a knife at a business located in the Ömerli Neighborhood of Çekmeköy, has deeply saddened us all. I wish God's mercy upon our Prosecutor; I extend my condolences and patience to his family, relatives, and the judiciary community. The attacker has been taken into custody, and a comprehensive judicial investigation initiated by the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is ongoing," he stated.
IT WAS REVEALED THAT HE HAD 3 CRIMINAL RECORDS AND HAD STAYED IN PRISON
It was revealed that Mustafa Can G., who stabbed Prosecutor Ercan Kayhan, had worked as a waiter at the restaurant where the incident occurred for two years. Mustafa Can G. has three criminal records for 'violence against women', 'stalking', and 'violation of the inviolability of the dwelling', and it was determined that he had stayed in Maltepe Prison between 09.11.2024 and 15.01.2025.
HE HAD ARGUMENTS WITH THE PROSECUTOR DURING HIS TIME AS A WAITER
It was determined that Prosecutor Ercan Kayhan, who frequently visited the establishment as a customer, had argued with the suspect Mustafa Can G. for an unknown reason during the period he worked as a waiter there, and this is when their feud began. Due to this feud, it was learned that the suspect Mustafa Can G. came to the establishment in the evening and stabbed Prosecutor Ercan Kayhan in the throat. The suspect was apprehended at the scene with the weapon, and it was reported that necessary evidence was collected during the investigations conducted at the restaurant and that the investigation is ongoing.
HE WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE COURT
Meanwhile, the 19-year-old murderer Mustafa Can Gül, who killed Prosecutor Ercan Kayhan by stabbing him in Çekmeköy, was transferred to the Anadolu Courthouse in Kartal after his procedures at the gendarmerie.
