In a statement made via Telegram, Pezeshkian emphasized that the internet blockade imposed to suppress the protests stemmed from a desire to prevent the spread of violent images, but that it would not solve anything. Yusuf Pezeshkian said, "Shutting down the internet will not solve anything; we will only postpone the problem."
Pezeshkian argued that the digital blackout would further widen the gap of dissatisfaction between the public and the government. He noted that the continuation of restrictions would add even those who were previously satisfied to the "dissatisfied" list.
The internet access blockade, which began on January 8 with the violent suppression of protests in Iran, has drawn reactions from local and international human rights groups. Due to the restrictions, social media and the flow of information have been significantly disrupted, leading to serious interruptions in daily life and economic activities.
