With the amendment to the Highway Traffic Law accepted by the Turkish Grand National Assembly, penalties for many violations that endanger traffic safety have been significantly increased. According to the new regulation, those using bicycles, electric scooters, motorized bicycles, and motorcycles on pedestrian paths will face an administrative fine of 5,000 lira. Those who use the vehicle road despite the presence of a bicycle lane, those riding bicycles side by side, and those violating safety rules will also face the same penalty.

With the regulation accepted by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, a fine of 5,000 lira has been imposed for the use of bicycles, scooters, and motorcycles on pedestrian paths, while penalties for violations that endanger traffic safety have been intensified.

5,000 LIRA FINE FOR VEHICLE USE ON PEDESTRIAN PATHS

In the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, six more articles of the proposal that foresees changes in the Highway Traffic Law were accepted. With the new regulation, the use of bicycles, electric scooters, motorbikes, and motorcycles on pedestrian paths has been prohibited. Drivers who violate this ban will face an administrative fine of 5,000 lira.

STRICTER RULES FOR BICYCLES AND SCOOTERS

According to the accepted articles, those using the vehicle road in places with bicycle paths, multiple bicycles riding side by side in one lane, and drivers who do not comply with safety rules will also face a fine of 5,000 lira. The regulation aims to enhance safety in areas designated for pedestrians.

PENALTIES UP TO 60,000 LIRA FOR LOAD AND WEIGHT VIOLATIONS

Penalties for violations of load carrying rules have also been increased. An administrative fine of up to 60,000 lira will be imposed for the unauthorized transportation of loads subject to special permits, loading beyond the legal dimensions, or failure to secure the load safely. In cases where these violations are detected in vehicles carrying hazardous materials and containers, the fine will rise to 20,000 lira. Vehicles exceeding the weight limit will be fined between 10,000 and 60,000 lira, depending on the excess load ratio.

SEVERE PENALTIES FOR NOT COMPLYING WITH "STOP" SIGNALS

Drivers who do not comply with the "stop" signal at inspection points and evade weight checks will also be penalized with an administrative fine of 60,000 lira.

WINTER TIRE AND SNOW CHAIN OBLIGATION

With the new regulation, the use of winter tires has been made mandatory according to the weather and climate conditions of the provinces. Vehicle operators who do not comply with this rule will be fined 6,000 lira. In snowy and icy weather, trucks, tractors, and buses are required to have and use snow chains. Heavy vehicle drivers who cause traffic disruptions due to not using chains will face a fine of 24,000 lira.

RECORD FINES FOR DRIFTING AND DANGEROUS DRIVING

Motorcycle and motorbike riders performing acrobatic maneuvers will be fined 46,000 lira. Their licenses will be revoked for 60 days, and their vehicles will be banned from traffic. If the same violation is repeated within 5 years, the driver's licenses will be canceled. Those organizing unauthorized races will be fined 16,000 lira, while drivers participating in races will face a fine of 46,000 lira and have their licenses confiscated for 2 years.

NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR SHARED SCOOTER OPERATIONS

Real and legal persons wishing to operate electric scooters will be required to obtain an authorization certificate from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. Those operating without an authorization certificate will face an administrative fine of 86,900 lira.

INSPECTIONS WILL BE TIGHTENED

With the accepted regulation, it is aimed to increase deterrence against behaviors that endanger traffic safety, and it is expected that inspections will be tightened with the implementation of the regulation.
