In a horrific accident during a horse race held in the Philippines, 32-year-old jockey Elvin Abrea lost his life. The unfortunate athlete died after falling from his horse and being trampled by another horse.
The incident occurred on Saturday at the Hapi Jockey Club racetrack in Padre Garcia. In the race held at the Philippines' only horse racing track, Elvin Abrea was competing with a horse named Fly With The Wind. A total of seven jockeys participated in the race.
As the race approached the 1000-meter mark, Abrea attempted to position himself to the right while moving through the crowded group. However, it was reported that Fly With The Wind made contact with the hind legs of the horse named Magnolia Ariana, ridden by JL Paano, which was running in front of him.
As a result of this contact, Fly With The Wind stumbled and fell to the ground, and jockey Elvin Abrea was violently thrown onto the racetrack. Unfortunately, another horse coming right behind did not have enough time to stop or change direction and passed over Abrea, who was lying on the ground.
The official authorities confirmed that Elvin Abrea died at the scene of the tragic accident.
In the report prepared by the race officials, it was stated that Fly With The Wind struck the legs of the horse in front of it, which caused the accident. JL Paano, the jockey of Magnolia Ariana, stated that he did not feel any contact and that his horse was running in a straight line.
The Philippine Jockey Club issued a written statement regarding the death of Elvin Abrea. The statement included the following remarks:
