THE HAZELNUT HARVEST HAS STARTED
In Turkey, where the highest production is made, the hazelnut harvest has started, continuing in the middle regions but experiencing a significant yield loss in the high regions. Producers are processing the hazelnuts they have brought to the barn and dried through the threshing process.
YIELD HAS DROPPED
The yield, which was announced as 202,000 tons in 2024, has been calculated as 64,000 tons for 2025. The dates for hazelnut picking in Ordu have been announced as August 4 for coastal areas, August 11 for middle areas, and August 18 for high areas.
THRESHERS' HOURLY WAGE IS 4,500 TL
Threshers, who work under challenging conditions and spend about 20 hours a day working for approximately 2 months each year, depending on the workload, state that they will work for about 3 weeks this year due to the low yield. Working in dusty conditions due to sunny weather, threshers state that they have set their hourly wage at 4,500 TL this year, up from 3,500 TL last year.
"WE WORK LESS, WE HAVE TO VISIT OUR CUSTOMERS"
Threshing owner Cengiz Şahin stated that they have started the 2025 threshing season. Expressing that there has been a decrease in their work due to the low yield of hazelnuts this year, Şahin said, "We are working less, and we have to visit our customers. We go according to requests without rest day and night. This year, the hourly price is 4,500 TL. This is a price announced for us. This year we will work for about 20 days, but when the hazelnuts are abundant, we work for more than 2 months."
Salih Türkeli, who has been producing hazelnuts for years in the Öceli neighborhood of the Altınordu district, stated that they have completed the challenging hazelnut harvest and have sent it to the thresher, noting that the yield is low due to the stink bug and agricultural frost, and that they have completed the 2025 hazelnut harvest season.

Producer Temel Türkeli expressed that they have sent the hazelnuts they harvested to the thresher, saying, "We have sent the first batch, and we will send the other hazelnuts later. The hazelnuts were good this year. There are many stink bugs, but since they are in the larval stage, they have not affected the hazelnuts. For now, we have finished the harvest season; the hot weather made it a bit difficult for us and affected the hazelnuts. Still, we thank God."
