Lawyer Rezan Epözdemir denied the allegation that he 'requested 150 thousand dollars in exchange for a release process with a prosecutor' in his statement to the prosecutor's office.

REZAN EPÖZDEMİR IN CUSTODY

As part of two separate investigations conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Lawyer Rezan Epözdemir was detained on charges of bribery, political and military espionage, and aiding the FETÖ/PDY terrorist organization. Searches were conducted by police teams from the Financial Crimes and Anti-Terrorism Departments at Epözdemir's home and his office in Levent.

A person identified as A.D., who provided a statement as a witness in the investigation, claimed in his statement to the prosecutor's office that Epözdemir and a prosecutor requested a bribe of 150 thousand dollars in exchange for a release process.

PROSECUTOR'S STATEMENT REVEALED

Meanwhile, Epözdemir's statement to the prosecutor's office has also emerged. According to information provided by journalist Emrullah Erdinç, Epözdemir stated that the investigation should be conducted by HSK inspectors and that the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was unauthorized. He claimed that all evidence obtained was unlawful under the "poisonous tree" doctrine.

RESPONSE TO THE 150 THOUSAND DOLLAR BRIBERY ALLEGATION

Epözdemir also responded to the allegation that he 'requested 150 thousand dollars in exchange for a release process with a prosecutor.' Denying the allegation, Epözdemir claimed that he had lent money to Prosecutor Cengiz Çallı in the past and that his name might have come up in WhatsApp messages for this reason. He pointed out that the dates alleged for bribery contradicted the release dates.

"BONDS ARE IN EXCHANGE FOR THE PROSECUTOR'S DEBTS"

Epözdemir asserted that the 2,490,000 TL bonds seized in his office were found through an unlawful search and that they were not bribes but rather documents of receivables. He claimed that the bonds were in exchange for Prosecutor Çallı's past debts.

Journalist Emrullah Erdinç also reported the following from Lawyer Rezan Epözdemir's statement: "He described Atalay Demirbaş as a 'fraudster,' and claimed that Zihni Çakır harbored animosity towards him and set up a 'setup.' He stated that Atalay had been demanding money from him for years and resorted to slander when he did not give it."

REQUESTED HIS RELEASE

After his statement, when asked for his final words, Epözdemir said: "Firstly, the file must be urgently sent to the HSK as I explained above. Secondly, I want to draw attention again to the unlawful evidence part. All evidence obtained is unlawful. The investigations initiated with this evidence are also unlawful. I request the return of the aforementioned evidence to us. Additionally, if there are any other investigations initiated with unlawful evidence, they should also be terminated. I would like to remind you that the authorities conducting these investigations have a liability for compensation under Article 141 of the CMK.

I have no suspicion of evidence tampering or fleeing based on my current position as of the date of the incident. I reserve my right to compensation due to the clearly unauthorized judicial control and search operations under the same article. My son is receiving language education in London. The tickets to London were purchased round trip on July 23, which was long before the investigation date. I request that the current judicial control be lifted to prevent further loss of rights and that I be released without any judicial control measures for the reasons I have stated. I am also submitting the documents related to the flight reservations to the file. I request that an investigation be initiated ex officio against the individuals who made statements against me for the crime of slander under Article 267 of the TCK," he said.

REQUESTED TO BE ARRESTED

Lawyer Rezan Epözdemir was referred to the Duty Magistrate's Court for his arrest on charges of facilitating bribery.

For Epözdemir, a judicial control measure in the form of a travel ban was requested due to charges of aiding an armed terrorist organization and political and military espionage.

SUSPECT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY BENEFITED FROM EFFECTIVE REMORSE

Kürşat Y., who was detained as part of the bribery investigation and was the secretary of Prosecutor Cengiz Çallı during the period the crime was committed, and is currently serving as the head of the writing department at Bakırköy Courthouse, was released after benefiting from effective remorse.
