A parliamentary session will be held in Iraq tomorrow to elect a new President. Among the 19 candidates, KDP member Fuad Hussein and PUK member Nizar Amedi are standing out. The election will take place according to the political equation structured among the Kurdish parties.

It has been reported that a session will be held tomorrow in the Iraqi Parliament to elect the new President.

IRAQ WILL ELECT A NEW PRESIDENT

According to the statement from the Parliament, among the 19 candidates competing in the session to be held tomorrow to elect the new president are Fuad Hussein, a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Nizar Amedi, a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

TO BE ELECTED AMONG KURDISH PARTY CANDIDATES

According to the political equation in Iraq after 2003, the President is elected from among the candidates of the Kurdish parties. The late former President Jalal Talabani and other members of the PUK had held this position.

The Coordination Framework, composed of Shia party leaders who won the general elections held on November 11, 2025, announced former Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki as the Prime Minister candidate as the largest group in the parliament.

The President, expected to be elected in the Parliament tomorrow, is required to assign Maliki the task of forming the government within a maximum of 15 days.
