The low-level jet stream affecting the Black Sea will cause heavy rainfall in Istanbul and its surroundings.
The General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) announced that the system will affect the Marmara Region for 48 hours and that a "yellow code" meteorological warning has been issued for Istanbul.
REPEATED WARNINGS FROM METEOROLOGY FOR ISTANBUL
According to MGM data, partly and very cloudy weather is expected across the country.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the northern and eastern parts of Marmara, the Mediterranean, Central Anatolia, the Black Sea, the northern and western parts of Eastern Anatolia, and the western parts of Southeastern Anatolia, as well as in the areas of Çanakkale, Kütahya, Bitlis, and Van.
The Istanbul Regional Forecast and Early Warning Center of the 1st Regional Directorate of Meteorology announced that strong downpours will be particularly effective in the Şile and Beykoz districts of Istanbul, throughout Kocaeli, and in the Kaynarca, Karasu, and Kocaali districts of Sakarya.
ISTANBUL'S NORTHERN DISTRICTS ARE AT RISK
According to a social media post by Hava Forum, the effective jet stream over the Black Sea will continuously feed the rainfall system. It has been reported that as the system brushes the coast, rainfall may intensify in Istanbul's northern districts, with the possibility of it advancing to the central districts over time.
In the continuation of the statement, it was said, "On Thursday, there is activity of the 'Low-Level Jet Stream' in the Black Sea. This is a mechanism that feeds the rainfall. In short, there is a wave of rainfall in the Black Sea that will approach the land, brush against it in some places, and touch down on some cities along the coast. Look at the animation; it may just touch Istanbul. This means that the northern districts may catch the rainfall, and there is a possibility of it moving towards the center depending on the movement. Istanbul is again on the edge. The main rain and risk seem to be along the Zonguldak-Bartın line. There is a risk of flooding in these areas."
TEMPERATURES WILL DROP BY 6 DEGREES
Meteorology reported that air temperatures will decrease by 4 to 6 degrees in the eastern regions, while no significant changes are expected in other regions.
It is predicted that temperatures across the country will remain below seasonal norms, and that cool and rainy weather may continue in the Marmara Region until the weekend.
