A pedestrian attempting to cross the road on the North Marmara Highway in Kocaeli was killed after being hit by a car. It was determined that the deceased person had fled from the teams that were warning him.
While trying to cross the road at the entrance of the Erkan Ömerbeyoğlu Tunnel on the Kocaeli passage of the North Marmara Highway, a pedestrian was hit by a car and died, while 2 others were injured. The accident occurred around 10:00 PM at the entrance of the Erkan Ömerbeyoğlu Tunnel in the Sepetçi neighborhood of İzmit district on the North Marmara Highway. The car with license plate 35 TE 501, driven by Muhammet Ç. (40), hit the pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been determined, while attempting to cross the highway.
THE DRIVER OF THE CAR THAT HIT THE PEDESTRIAN WAS ALSO INJURED
With the force of the accident, the pedestrian was thrown several meters away, while the out-of-control car was able to stop by crashing into the barrier on the side of the road. After the situation was reported to the 112 Emergency Call Center, health and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the area. During the checks by the medical personnel, it was determined that the pedestrian had lost his life. The driver Muhammet Ç., who was found to be injured, and Oğuzhan K., who was in the vehicle, were taken to Kocaeli City Hospital after their first interventions. After the gendarmerie teams completed their work at the scene, the pedestrian's body was taken to the morgue of Kocaeli State Hospital for autopsy procedures.
THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE HE WAS FLEEING FROM THE TEAMS THAT WARNED HIM
It was learned that the teams of the North Marmara Highway, who noticed the pedestrian walking inside the tunnel, stopped this person for safety reasons, and after the pedestrian fled, they reported the situation to the highway gendarmerie teams. It was then revealed that the pedestrian was hit by a car while crossing the road after fleeing from the gendarmerie teams. An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
