U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Venezuela's airspace will be reopened to commercial flights and that Americans can now travel to the country safely. Trump, who instructed the reopening of commercial flights, also stated that major U.S. oil companies have begun to go to Venezuela to select locations for their projects.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the airspace of Venezuela will be reopened to commercial flights and that Americans can now travel to this country "safely."
President Trump made a statement regarding the current situation in Venezuela during the first cabinet meeting of 2026 held at the White House.
"I INFORMED THAT WE WILL OPEN ALL COMMERCIAL AIRSPACE TO VENEZUELA"
Trump, referring to Venezuela's Interim President Delcy Rodriguez, said, "I just spoke with the President of Venezuela and informed him that we will open all commercial airspace over Venezuela."
Noting that he instructed the U.S. Department of Transportation and the military to open Venezuela's airspace to commercial flights as soon as possible, Trump said that Americans can now go to Venezuela and that they will be "safe there."

Trump also expressed that major U.S. oil companies have begun to go to Venezuela to choose locations for their projects and that the economic gains from this will bring "great wealth" to both the U.S. and Venezuela.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
More than 150 fighter jets, drones, helicopters, and special forces from 20 U.S. military bases launched an assault on the Fuerte Tiuna Military Base southwest of Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, at 01:45 local time on January 3. In the attacks, more than 100 people, including 47 Venezuelan soldiers and 32 Cuban private security forces, lost their lives.
In addition to Fuerte Tiuna, La Carlota Air Base, La Guaira Port, El Libertador Air Base, and Higuerote Airport were also targeted by U.S. airstrikes. Maduro and his wife were taken from a secure house in Fuerte Tiuna, considered one of Venezuela's most strategic and heavily guarded areas, and brought to the U.S.
Following Maduro, Vice President Delcy Rodriguez became the Interim President.
