In the conflicts between Afghanistan and Pakistan, dozens of soldiers lost their lives, and many military bases became unusable. While Afghanistan announced that the clashes were halted following the mediation of Qatar and Saudi Arabia, Pakistani President Zardari called on the Afghan administration to take "concrete steps" against the "terror elements" that he stated were operating on its territory.

Clashes have been reported between the border forces of the two countries in the Paktia province, located on the border with Pakistan in Afghanistan. According to a report shared by Kabul-based Tolo News on the social media platform of the US-based X company, clashes occurred between Afghan and Pakistani border forces in many areas close to the Pakistan border line in Paktia.

Security sources reported that Afghan forces targeted Pakistani bases near the Durand Line, which is considered the border between the two countries, and that the attacks were retaliatory in nature against Pakistan's air operations. Sources indicated that some of the bases in question were captured, while it was claimed that 12 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the clashes. Local residents stated that civilians were forced to leave their homes due to the clashes that erupted in the Dand-e Patan region of the province.

According to a report by the Islamabad-based Dawn newspaper, Pakistani security officials stated that the army responded "immediately and strongly" to the attacks, and that many bases belonging to the Afghan side and militant positions were heavily damaged. Officials noted that the Pakistani army responded with artillery, tanks, light and heavy weapons, and that drones were also used in the operations.

PAKISTAN CLAIMED TO HAVE CAPTURED 19 OUTPOSTS

Pakistan's state television PTV News, citing security sources, claimed that the Pakistani army captured 19 outposts belonging to Afghanistan. It was alleged that those present at the captured outposts were killed, that Afghan forces abandoned some outposts and fled, and that fires broke out in others. According to local sources in Pakistan, the Torkham Border Gate between Pakistan and Afghanistan was closed after clashes erupted in various places throughout the night.

AFGHANISTAN STATED THAT THE "RETALIATORY OPERATION" HAS STOPPED

The Afghan side confirmed that it closed the border gate to passenger crossings, transit traffic, and refugees. Sources speaking to Tolo News indicated that mortar fire from Pakistan was still ongoing in the Aryoub Zazi region of Paktia province and the Angoor Adda region. In a statement from the Afghan Ministry of Defense, it was reiterated that the "retaliatory and successful operations" against Pakistan had been halted as of midnight, but that the country was ready to defend its territory with determination.

AFGHANISTAN CLAIMED TO HAVE KILLED 58 PAKISTANI SOLDIERS

Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed in a press statement that 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 30 soldiers were injured in the clashes at the border with Pakistan.

QATAR AND SAUDI ARABIA MEDIATED

Mujahid, who stated that more than 20 people were killed or injured on the Afghan side, said that the clashes were halted following the mediation of Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Mujahid claimed that after the operations conducted on the Pakistani side last night, a large number of weapons and equipment fell into the hands of Afghan border guards. Meanwhile, both Pakistan and Afghanistan accused each other of firing at civilians.

PAKISTANI OFFICIALS EVALUATED THE DEVELOPMENTS

According to a report by the Dawn newspaper, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari called on the Afghan government to take "concrete steps" against the "terror elements" that he claimed were operating in its territory. Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also stated in his remarks that they would respond strongly to any provocation.

Sharif noted that Pakistan had repeatedly conveyed information about some terrorist elements using Afghan territory to carry out attacks on Pakistan. Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar expressed deep concern over the developments at the Afghan border in a post on the social media platform of the US-based X company.

Dar stated that Pakistan targeted Afghanistan's infrastructure in the clashes, that they acted cautiously to prevent civilian casualties, and that they did not target civilians. He expressed that they would take necessary measures to protect their territory and called for "concrete measures" against elements that seek to disrupt Pakistan-Afghanistan relations.

AFGHANISTAN-PAKISTAN TENSION

On October 9, it was reported that an explosion was heard in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. It was alleged that Pakistani warplanes conducted airstrikes in the Margha region of Afghanistan's Paktia province.

Subsequently, the Afghan government accused Pakistan of being responsible for the explosions that occurred in Margha and the capital Kabul. Pakistan, however, did not make any statement regarding the allegations of airstrikes.
