"100,000 TL reward for bringing the opposition leader from Venezuela."

03.01.2025 10:47

Venezuela announced that it will reward $100,000 to anyone who helps capture opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez, who sought asylum in Spain after an arrest warrant was issued against him.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro won the presidential election held in July for the third time with 51.20% of the votes. The opposition coalition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez and opposition leader Maria Corina Machado rejected the election results. After a warrant for his arrest was issued, Gonzalez fled from Caracas to Madrid with his wife on September 8 aboard a Spanish Air Force plane. Venezuela announced that a reward would be offered for Gonzalez's capture.

100,000 TL FOR WHO BRINGS GONZALEZ

The Venezuelan Scientific, Criminal and Forensic Research Corps (CICPC) announced that a reward of 100,000 dollars would be given to those who assist in the arrest of Gonzalez, who has sought asylum in Spain. The CICPC stated, "Gonzalez is wanted for supporting acts of violence against the republic, usurpation of office, forgery, money laundering, disregarding state institutions, disobedience to laws, and forming a criminal organization."

CLAIM OF MEETING WITH THE ARGENTINE PRESIDENT

Meanwhile, information has been shared that Gonzalez will move to Argentina and will be received by President Javier Milei there. Opposition politician Gonzalez has not yet officially responded to claims that he will seek asylum in Argentina.

"WILL BE ARRESTED AS SOON AS HE SETS FOOT IN THE COUNTRY"

Gonzalez had previously announced in several statements to the media that he wanted to come to Venezuela on January 10, 2025, to take the oath as president. Venezuelan Interior and Justice Minister Diosdado Cabello stated in a statement on November 29, 2024, that Gonzalez would be arrested the moment he set foot in Venezuela, saying, "There is not even a single possibility of Edmundo Gonzalez coming to Venezuela to take the oath." Cabello emphasized that President Nicolas Maduro won the election on July 28, stating that Maduro would take the oath before the National Assembly (AN) on January 10, 2025.
