In the mastic gardens established within the scope of the project launched in Muğla in 2015, the first harvest was carried out after an 11-year patient wait. With mastic production, which finds buyers at prices between 30,000 and 35,000 Turkish liras per kilogram and is used in a wide range of fields from cosmetics to food, it is aimed to reduce Turkey's dependence on imports and to turn Muğla into a mastic production center.

The first products were harvested from mastic trees planted in Muğla in 2015. The 11-year patient wait turned into victory in mastic cultivation, which finds buyers up to 35 thousand TL per kilo and is aimed at reducing Turkey's foreign dependency.

A historic moment was experienced in the mastic gardens established in Muğla within the scope of the Development of Medicinal Aromatic and Dye Plants Project (TAB Project), initiated by the General Directorate of Plant Production in 2015. The excitement of the first harvest has begun for the mastic plant, which is known for its slow growth and requires years of effort.

MUĞLA'S "MASTIC INVENTORY" BEING CREATED

In cooperation with the Aegean Agricultural Research Institute, the Regional Directorate of Forestry, and GEKA, efforts to create Muğla's mastic inventory continue. Leaf and mastic samples taken from trees in the region are undergoing quality analysis.

Upon completion of the studies, a workshop will be organized to determine the city's mastic map and future roadmap, and the obtained data will be turned into a guidebook and presented to producers.
