Mehtap and Yusuf Başçı, who run a restaurant in the Artuklu district, have a daughter named Elif who is preparing for the university entrance exam. On June 4, she left home saying she would take her belongings to the café where she had quit her job. When her family could not reach Elif Başçı, they reported the situation to the police. In the search efforts by the teams, no trace of Elif was found.
THE MISSING GIRL'S BROTHER ALSO DIED OF LEUKEMIA Elif's mother, Mehtap Başçı, said, "The day before the incident, on June 3, her father told her, 'You will take the university entrance exam, you are working too hard at the café and coming home late, don’t go to the café anymore. If you want, you can come work with me.' Elif initially said 'okay' and then said, 'I want to continue working at the café.' She also told her sister, 'I will go.' Of course, we didn’t understand. In the morning, she got up and got dressed, then I asked, 'Elif, where are you going?' She said, 'I will go deliver my belongings and then I will come to the shop.' I said, 'Don’t be late, come.' Our service is between 11:30 and 12:00, sometimes she would come to help us. But she didn’t come. Her sister called her but couldn’t reach her. Her sister said, 'I have a bad feeling, I will go to the workplace.' The owner of the workplace told her sister, 'Elif came, left the key, and went out.' That was the last time we heard from her. The camera footage should show where she went, which vehicle or bus she took. Why is there still no trace? Maybe she got angry with us, maybe her psychology deteriorated, but she wouldn’t be able to endure this long without contacting us. If she is watching me, she should come home. We have suffered enough. I lost a son to leukemia; I think this pain is harder. It is harder than death. Hers is harder," she said.
"WE ARE DEVASTATED" Elif's father, Yusuf Başçı, expressed his desire to find his daughter, saying, "My daughter is being held against her will; otherwise, she would have contacted us. Elif wouldn’t do this. She would call her mother or sister; she would definitely contact one of us. We don’t know, everything is suspicious, we have nothing in our hands. We are devastated, we are dying, our psychology is broken. Please find my daughter. The Ministry of Justice should intervene in this matter. Where does my daughter live, where does she sleep, what does she drink, what does she eat? She is just a 17-year-old child," he said.
"PLEASE TAKE ACTION" The family's lawyer, Gurbet Bilbay, expressed the urgency of finding Elif, stating, "We have a missing girl. Of course, I just received the case. The family has already filed a missing person report. They are trying to make their voices heard. We are also calling out from here; this child is only 17 years old. After leaving home, the fact that she left her workplace and has not been heard from again are all suspicious actions. We want our ministry to intervene in this matter. We want to reach our child before receiving bad news. The family is in a devastated state; please take the necessary actions."
