Five-year-old Polen Tekin, who was taken to a private hospital by her family due to severe nosebleeds and black discharge, was prescribed medication for "infection," but it was later discovered that she had a chain of nail clippers in her nose. The couple Gökhan-Nalan Tekin, living in Rize, took their daughter Polen to a private hospital about 4 months ago due to severe nosebleeds and discharge complaints. After being X-rayed and having her tests completed, the little girl was allegedly diagnosed with an infection and given medication. Upon returning home, the family went to Rize State Hospital's Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic as the bleeding and discharge did not stop.
IT CAME TO LIGHT AT THE STATE HOSPITAL
After the examination by the doctor at the state hospital and a comprehensive X-ray, it was noticed that there was a metal object in Polen's nose. It was evaluated that it had been there for 2 years, and the object, determined to be a small ball-shaped nail clipper chain, was successfully removed through surgery. After a period of treatment, Polen was discharged when she regained her health. While the officials of the private hospital did not make a statement regarding the matter, the family said they would file a complaint.
"MY DAUGHTER CAME BACK FROM DEATH"
Gökhan Tekin, explaining that his daughter had a constant black discharge from her nose, said, "My child was having nosebleeds and a constant black discharge. I took her to the private hospital. An X-ray was taken at the private hospital, and they said no findings were detected. We were told that the black spot was something related to an infection. We came home, and as the discharge continued, we applied to the state hospital this time. They noticed the metal chain in her nose. Could there be such negligence? We go to a private hospital, and we are embarrassed with our money. The chain had been in her nose for 2 years, and a good doctor in our state hospital discovered the chain, my daughter came back from death. I will not let this matter go until the end. I will fight a legal battle to the end. Let this be a lesson for our other patients. Look, here is a whole chain. They say 'no findings were detected,'" he said.
"EVEN THE DOCTOR WAS SURPRISED 'HOW COULD IT BE OVERLOOKED?'"
Tekin, stating that his daughter's condition after the surgery was good, said, "Can you believe they asked us, 'Is there a stove burning at home? Could it be due to coal soot?' Could such a thing be possible? A chain the size of my finger came out after the surgery. The doctor at the state hospital also commented, 'How could this be overlooked? How could such a position not be seen?' Thank God we got through it. Right now, her condition is good. I believe that a doctor is also a matter of chance. Look, we go to private hospitals with our money, they take better care of us. However, our doctor at the state hospital uncovered the incident," he said.
