A 10-year-old child described how his father killed his mother: He said I have a surprise for you

In the trial of Ahmet Güral, who is being prosecuted for aggravated life imprisonment for allegedly killing his wife Serpil Güral in İzmir, the couple's children testified as witnesses. The 10-year-old child, who was at home during the incident, stated, 'That person said on the day of the incident, "I have a surprise for you. I love you very much, don't forget." My brother and I were studying in the room. We heard the sounds and I saw the incident.'

A chilling incident occurred around 1:30 PM on October 5, 2025, in an apartment located on Ibn-i Sina Street in Göreve Neighborhood, Menderes district of Izmir. A dispute broke out between Ahmet Güral (48) and his wife Serpil Güral (45). As the argument escalated, Ahmet Güral stabbed Serpil Güral. Serpil Güral, a mother of two, lost her life, and Güral was arrested.

Following the investigation, a case was filed against the defendant for "premeditated murder with monstrous intent," seeking aggravated life imprisonment. The indictment was accepted by the Izmir 4th Heavy Penal Court.

COURT ADJOURNED WHEN HE CRIED

Ahmet Güral's trial began today at the Izmir 4th Heavy Penal Court. In addition to the detained defendant Güral, Serpil's family, lawyers, and members of the "We Will Stop Femicide Platform" attended the hearing. First, Ahmet Güral was given the floor.

Ahmet Güral said, "She left a note at home saying she wanted a divorce. I called my father-in-law, and he said he would inform me. When I returned home after picking up the kids from school, she wasn't there. Checking the apartment's security footage, I saw her leaving with suitcases and bags. I tracked down the taxi she took, and they said she went to Ödemiş." Claiming he was cheated on, Ahmet Güral continued, "After some time, I went to my wife and said, 'Let's forget everything and start over.' On the day of the incident, I called and messaged her, but she didn't respond. Then I came home and woke her up. We had coffee. She said she opened a social media account under her maiden name. We started arguing, and she said she would press the KADES button" and began to cry. The court then adjourned.

"HE THREATENED TO KILL MY DAUGHTER"

Resuming his defense after the break, Ahmet Güral requested to submit the remainder of his defense in writing. The panel accepted the defendant Güral's request. Upon the court president's question, defendant Güral stated he does not remember what happened after the third stab wound. Following the defendant Güral, Serpil Güral's mother, Elmas Rodoplu, stated they were pressing charges and said, "My daughter repeatedly said she wanted a divorce. But he threatened to kill my daughter by using us and the children."

SIBLINGS AGED 10 AND 14 DESCRIBE THE MURDER

The couple's children were also heard during the hearing. B.G. (14) said, "About a year before the incident, my mother wanted to leave, but that person objected. A week before the incident, my mother told us she would leave the house but would come back for us later. On the morning of the incident, my father called me and said he was at the door and would make a breakfast surprise. He came home. Around noon, the issue of separation came up again. I was studying in my room. When I heard the noises, I left the house to call for help."

"HE SAID 'I HAVE A SURPRISE FOR YOU'"

B.G. (10) said, "That person, on the day of the incident, said, 'I have a surprise for you. I love you very much, don't forget.' My brother and I were studying in the room. We heard the noises and saw the incident." After the defense and statements, the prosecution presented their opinion. The prosecutor expressed the view that Ahmet Güral's detention should continue.
