21-year-old Maci Mugele, who lives in Oklahoma, USA, is being lynched on social media for her four-month-old son Gunner being overweight. Some people claimed that the mother was committing "child abuse" for the baby, who weighs about 10.2 kg (22.5 pounds).
In a video shared by Mugele on TikTok, which has been viewed more than 20 million times, there was a note that read, "4 months old, a baby off the percentile – 10 kg of pure muscle" while she was holding her son in her arms.
However, this post, which she thought was cute, was not received as she expected. Comments such as "Could this child be diabetic?" and "This is outright abuse" were among the criticisms. Some users also mocked with phrases like "Ozempic" (a weight loss drug).
Mugele was greatly shocked by these reactions:
"I thought people would find this image sweet. But seeing how malicious people can be saddened me. It's shocking that they can write such things so casually about a baby."
The young mother emphasizes that her son is healthy. She says that doctors are not worried about Gunner's weight:
"He has always been bigger than his peers since he was born. My belly was always bigger than normal during pregnancy. He was around 3.6 kg at birth, but then he gained weight rapidly."
Mugele also adds that she only feeds her baby when he is hungry and does not understand why this is seen as "abuse."
"Gunner eats a little more than an average baby since he was born. But the doctors say that this is not a problem."
There were also supporters on social media. The NFL team Tampa Bay Buccaneers humorously commented, "We are already reserving him for the field." Other followers shared positive comments like "Big babies are so cute" and "This baby looks amazing."
Mugele finally says:
"Doctors say he is completely healthy. So, I am not concerned about other people's negative comments."
