A forest fire that broke out in the Şarköy district of Tekirdağ and spread to the Gelibolu district of Çanakkale has been fought for about 20 hours. The fire, which is being intervened by 350 personnel with 60 fire trucks, has increased its speed around the Kızılcaterzi Neighborhood. Four people affected by smoke inhalation were hospitalized. Commando teams from the Provincial Gendarmerie Command and the Tekirdağ Police Department's Riot Police teams are also taking security measures in the neighborhood and supporting firefighting efforts. The teams checked the evacuated houses one by one as a precaution.
AIR INTERVENTION STARTED WHEN DAYLIGHT ARRIVED
With the arrival of daylight, intervention with 21 aircraft against the forest fire in Şarköy, Tekirdağ, has resumed. The fire, which started from agricultural land and spread to the forest in İstiklal Neighborhood around noon yesterday, has now passed the 18th hour of fighting. With the wind spreading the fire over a wide area and crossing the Çanakkale border, aerial intervention has resumed with the arrival of daylight. In addition to nearly 100 fire trucks on the ground and about 400 personnel, the fight continues with 21 aircraft. Tekirdağ Governor Recep Soytürk and General Director of Forestry Bekir Karacabey are managing the operations from AFAD's Mobile Coordination Center in the region.
SOME HOUSES HAVE BURNED
Tekirdağ Governor Recep Soytürk, Tekirdağ Metropolitan Mayor Candan Yüceer, Şarköy District Governor Ahmet Naci Helvacı, and Şarköy Mayor Alpay Var visited the area to inspect the ongoing efforts. Yesterday, Şenköy, Kızılcaterzi, and Kocali Neighborhoods were also evacuated as a precaution. Some houses in this area were also damaged in the fire. General Director of Forestry Bekir Karacabey also visited the area to get information from Governor Soytürk about the ongoing efforts.
FLAMES SPREAD FROM TEKİRDAĞ TO ÇANAKKALE
In the forest fire that broke out in Şarköy, Tekirdağ, the flames spread to the Gelibolu district of Çanakkale.
Çanakkale Governor Ömer Toraman stated that the wind's effect has decreased and that the teams have drawn the necessary lines to prevent the flames from advancing, adding that the fire does not pose a risk to natural gas pipelines and military facilities.
AYVACIK IN ÇANAKKALE IS ALSO BURNING
Efforts to control the forest fire that broke out in Ayvacık, Çanakkale, are ongoing from the air and ground.
Ground teams from the Forest Regional Directorate continued to intervene throughout the night in the fire that started yesterday in Naldöken village of Ayvacık and reached Tuzla, Taşağıl, and Çamköy due to strong winds. With the first light of day, 2 helicopters began to provide aerial support for firefighting efforts. While the flames are observed to have lost their intensity, the effect of the strong wind continues. Meanwhile, as a precaution, Naldöken, Tuzla, Çamköy, and Taşağıl villages were evacuated by the governorate, and residents returned to their homes after the risk had passed.
VILLAGE WITH A POWER PLANT AFFECTED BY THE FIRE
On the other hand, Tuzla village, which was affected by the fire and contains a geothermal power plant and the historic Hüdavendigar Mosque, was captured by drone footage from the air. The footage shows forested and scrub areas affected by the flames around the village, as well as residential areas. Due to the fire, some houses, roofs, and barns in Naldöken village were affected by the flames, and many animals perished in the fire. The flames advanced towards Tuzla village, which also contains the geothermal power plant, due to the wind, and the trees in the courtyard of the historic Hüdavendigar Mosque caught fire, causing damage to the mosque, which is under restoration, and the graves inside it.
