Heavy rainfall that started in the morning in Trabzon has led to flooding. Governor Aziz Yıldırım stated, "Until now, we were looking at it as if we had no losses, but we have received information that a 72-year-old citizen named Hüseyin Aydın from Akçaabat is missing. We have information that he went outside, did not return, and has not been heard from by his relatives."

Trabzon Governor Aziz Yıldırım conducted inspections in areas affected by floods and water inundations. First, he examined many points in the Ortahisar district, including Beşirli, the area around Hagia Sophia, the Green Valley streams, and the coastal road, along with teams on the ground, and received information about the ongoing efforts from the authorities.

Stating that they are acting in coordination with the relevant institutions against the adverse conditions caused by heavy rainfall, Yıldırım emphasized that the safety of citizens' lives and property is a priority. He conveyed his "Get well soon" wishes to the citizens affected by the disaster and warned them to be careful and take precautions against the risk of flooding.

"50-63 KILOGRAMS OF RAINFALL PER SQUARE METER IN ORTAHISAR"

Finally, Governor Aziz Yıldırım visited the General Directorate of Transportation Inc. (TULAŞ) of Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality to gather information from the authorities and made statements to the press there. Governor Aziz Yıldırım said, "Especially in our Ortahisar district of Trabzon, there has been rainfall since 03:00 at night. While these were proceeding normally until around 10:00, from 10:00 onwards, it dropped to 50.15 kilograms per square meter. Then, between 11:00 and 12:00, it rose to 63 kilograms per square meter. Other districts have also experienced rainfall, but they reached only 27-28 kilograms. This rainfall caused flooding because it occurred in a very short time and in a specific area. These floods caused accumulation on the old road, which we refer to as the coastal road, in the Beşirli and Moloz areas, over a distance of 1.5 kilometers. Some of our businesses here were damaged," he stated.

All of these requests have been evaluated one by one. Of the 278 requests, 267 were from Ortahisar, 6 from Akçaabat, 2 from Maçka, and one request each from Araklı, Yomra, and Arsin. All of these requests have been evaluated by our municipalities and AFAD. 139 of them have been resolved immediately. Work is ongoing for 138 of them," he said.

72-YEAR-OLD CITIZEN MISSING

Expressing that they have only received information about one missing person since the morning, Governor Yıldırım said, "We were looking at it as if we had no missing persons so far, but we received information that a 72-year-old citizen named Hüseyin Aydın from Akçaabat's Çukurca is missing. Our teams are searching for him. We hope to reach him alive. We have information that he went outside, did not return, and has not been heard from. The gendarmerie, AFAD, and our municipal teams are searching for him. We hope to find him. We will all wait together. One house each in the Ağıllı and Bahçecik neighborhoods has been evacuated. They were evacuated as a precaution. There is no damage to the houses. We hope that after the waters recede, they will be cleaned and they can return to their homes," he said.

"DAMAGE ASSESSMENT WORK HAS BEGUN"

Yıldırım also emphasized that damage assessment work has started quickly and continued his statements as follows:

"AFAD has started damage assessment with 16 engineers. They will immediately assess the damages related to workplaces and vehicles. Our citizens can also apply themselves. Citizens who do not have work should not go out on the roads. There is excessive traffic congestion on the roads. Construction machinery, fire trucks, and ambulances may not be able to reach the necessary places at the necessary times. Let’s try to keep the roads as clear as possible. Citizens who do not have work should not be on the roads. They should not go out with their vehicles. There is no problem in our schools. It was indeed a serious rainfall. We hope not to encounter another heavy rainfall again. This is the Black Sea; we have many streams and valleys. When there is a large amount of rainfall from these areas, water accumulates and flows from the streams. It exceeds its normal flow rate. It is beneficial to be careful. Citizens living near the streams should be cautious. Currently, we have not received any information from the Meteorology about an expected heavy rainfall, and we do not have any expectations. The rains will continue intermittently. However, our Meteorology Regional Directorate stated that it would not be of this magnitude."
