As the names for the Terror-Free Turkey Commission to be established in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) become clearer, the first rift between the AK Party and the CHP has emerged. CHP leader Özgür Özel reacted to AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler's statement that "the commission's work will be conducted behind closed doors." Özel stated, "Abdullah Güler has overstepped; the AK Party's Group Chairman cannot make a decision that the commission has not made."
Parties will inform the Turkish Grand National Assembly Presidency of the names of the members they have determined for the commission to be established in the Parliament regarding the process of a Turkey without terrorism by 5:00 PM today.
The commission, which the İYİ Party has decided not to participate in, will have a total of 48 members. Abdullah Güler, the Group Deputy Chairman of the ruling AK Party, which has the most seats with 21 names, announced the names they have determined. Güler stated, "We considered the representation of our 7 regions. We included 4 from the Marmara Region, 2 from the Black Sea, 3 from Central Anatolia, 3 from Southeastern Anatolia, 1 from the Aegean Region, 3 from Eastern Anatolia, and 5 from the Mediterranean Region in our list. We have determined the names as Abdulhamit Gül, Mustafa Şen, Kürşad Zorlu, Hüseyin Yayman, Cüneyt Yüksel, Sunay Karamık, Selami Altınok, Kemal Çelik, Mehmet Sait Yaz, Mahmut Atilla Kaya, Şengül Karslı, Mehmet Şahin, Ayşe Böhürler, Radiye Sezer Katırcıoğlu, Tahir Akyürek, Ali Kıratlı, Cevahir Asuman Yazmacı, Gökhan Diktaş, Burhan Kayatürk, Abdurrahman Babacan, and Ersan Aksu. I wish the commission success." he said.
"THE COMMISSION WILL BE CLOSED TO THE PRESS"
Regarding whether the commission will be open to the press, Güler stated, "The commission will be closed to the press. It will conduct a specific study. This is not an area where it discusses a legislative proposal like a specialized commission. The work to be done there and the evaluations to be presented will be addressed by the commission. Information will be gathered in a private area, the process will be monitored, and what needs to be done for it to become permanent will be discussed. A closed working system will be appropriate," he evaluated.
"IT IS A DISRESPECT"
Güler's remarks angered CHP leader Özgür Özel. In his statement, Özel said, "Abdullah Güler has been disrespectful; the commission members will decide how this commission will work in the first meeting. If they make this decision together, it should be respected. Who does Abdullah Güler think he is, does he have 6 shares in it? The Group Chairman of the AK Party cannot make a decision that the commission has not made. This will be decided in the commission meeting. They are making wrong calculations regarding the qualified majority. It does not drop to 47% when the İYİ Party does not participate. The simple majority of the total number of members will be the qualified majority. Calculations will be made based on the number reported as soon as the commission is established. Let's also address that deficiency." he said.
