AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler, regarding the statements made by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel about him, said, "In my press statement, we clearly state that 'Our proposals have no meaning, the commission will make its own work, principles, and decisions.' I invite a bit of courtesy."
A debate is taking place between CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler regarding the Terror-Free Turkey Commission.
GÜLER: THE COMMISSION WILL BE CLOSED TO THE PRESS
The debate began with Güler's statement regarding the commission: "The commission will be closed to the press. It will conduct its own specific work. This is not an area where it discusses a legislative proposal like a specialized commission. The work to be done there, the evaluations to be presented will be handled by the commission. Information will be gathered in a private area, the process will be monitored, and what needs to be done for it to become permanent will be discussed. A closed working system will be appropriate."
ÖZGÜR ÖZEL'S HARSH RESPONSE
In response to Güler's remarks, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel gave a harsh reply. In his statement, Özel said, "Abdullah Güler has acted disrespectfully; the commission members will decide how this commission will work in the first meeting. If they make this decision together, it should be respected. Who does Abdullah Güler think he is, does he have 6 shares in it? The AK Party Group Chairman cannot make a decision that the commission has not made. This will be determined in the commission meeting. They are making wrong calculations regarding the qualified majority. It does not drop to 47% when the IYI Party does not participate. The simple majority of the total number of members will be the qualified majority. Calculations will be made based on the number reported as soon as the commission is established. Let's also address that deficiency."
GÜLER: INCOMPLETE AND DISRESPECTFUL
Özgür Özel's response did not take long. Abdullah Güler stated in his reply to Özel that he learned that CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had made completely incomplete and disrespectful statements based on misinformation after announcing the 21 members from his party who would join the commission to be established in the Turkish Grand National Assembly in line with the goal of a "Terror-Free Turkey."
"IF HE HAD LISTENED TO THE ENTIRE STATEMENT, HE WOULD NOT HAVE MADE DISRESPECTFUL STATEMENTS"
Güler said, "If he had listened to my entire statements, if he had read my statements well, or if his advisors had conveyed a correct text to him, he probably would not have made these disrespectful statements." He added, "What I expressed there is that the commission will determine its own procedures, work, planning, and roadmap. However, considering that there will be discussions and negotiations regarding disarmament in the private domain, both with the MIT Presidency and the Armed Forces, the commission will be able to work in a closed manner in certain areas."
"OURS IS SIMPLY TO PRESENT A PERSPECTIVE"
Güler pointed out that similar works have been done in the past years within the framework of the consensus commissions established in the Assembly, stating, "Therefore, ours is simply to present a perspective here. But our commission will completely determine its working principles. The decision on how it can carry out its future work will be made by the commission to be established under the chairmanship of our Speaker of the Assembly. Ours is simply to present a perspective."
"I INVITE A BIT OF COURTESY"
Güler, who stated, "Unfortunately, the CHP Chairman continues to make disrespectful and hasty statements as always," noted the following:
"Until now, it was actually he who tried to exert pressure on the commission with his strange statements and to impose something. Unfortunately, I was saddened. In my press statement, we clearly state that 'our proposals have no meaning, the commission will make its own work, principles, and decisions.' Despite this, I was honestly very surprised by his statement as if we were pressuring the commissions. I would be pleased if the CHP Chairman made statements with a bit more courtesy, being in control of the events, and based on correct information. I will not say to him, 'you are being disrespectful.' I invite a bit of courtesy."
