A 91-year-old woman living alone in Aksaray lost her life after her clothes caught fire while trying to extinguish a blaze that broke out on the stove in her kitchen.
Meryem Altınsoy (91), who lived alone in Aksaray, lost her life in a fire that broke out when her dress caught fire while cooking.
FIRE BROKE OUT WHILE COOKING
The fire broke out around 19:00 on the 4th floor of a 4-story building located at 2622 Sokak, Küçük Bölcek Mahallesi. Meryem Altınsoy, who lived alone, allegedly had her dress catch fire while cooking on the stove. While trying to extinguish the fire, Altınsoy reportedly fell in the hallway of the house, and the fire on her skirt then spread to the carpet. As the flames rapidly spread, relatives who could not reach Altınsoy came to the house and encountered the fire when they opened the door. Upon notification, health, fire brigade, and police teams were dispatched to the address.
SHE LOST HER LIFE
The fire brigade teams who arrived at the house extinguished the fire. Health officials determined during the check that Altınsoy, a mother of four, had lost her life. Following the investigation, Altınsoy's body was taken to the morgue of Aksaray Training and Research Hospital for an autopsy.
Altınsoy's neighbor, Necla Serin, speaking about the incident, said, "Her relatives asked me for help. I immediately ran over and saw the old woman lying in the hallway. They had covered her with a carpet, but at that time, everything was on fire. I put it out with a hose, but she was already dead. She was my neighbor across the hall."
