A Brazilian businessman was arrested for threatening a young man who was in a relationship with his 15-year-old daughter. The incident took place at a mobile phone store in the town of Vianópolis. Security cameras showed the 39-year-old man arguing with the 16-year-old boy. The man chased the boy inside the store and pushed him towards a display window. When the boy started to run away, the man followed him into the street. After a while, he pulled out his gun and fired into the air. The man then fled, but was caught in Anápolis, 49 miles away, for not obeying the police's order to stop. The police initially found an air gun on the man. Although he claimed to have obtained it after the incident, the police also found the real gun he used in the vehicle. At the police station, the man said he only wanted to scare the boy after seeing messages on his daughter's phone. The police stated that the boy was not shot. This incident recalled a similar one that occurred five years ago. At that time, a 38-year-old father had killed a 19-year-old man who was dating his 14-year-old daughter. The man claimed he had called the boy to his home to "talk like a man," but shot him after the boy attacked him with a knife. These incidents show that some parents in Brazil can react excessively to their children's relationships.
