In the city of Porto Esperidião, Brazil, a tragic incident occurred last Friday. 25-year-old politician Rayane Alves Porto and her 28-year-old social media influencer sister Rithiely Alves Porto lost their lives due to innocent poses in a family photograph.
According to Police Chief Higo Rafael, a local gang misinterpreted a photo shared by the sisters on social media. The hand gesture and facial expression seen in the photo were perceived as a sign of a rival group by the gang.
The kidnapped sisters were tortured and killed on Friday night. Their brother, who was also kidnapped, survived with severe injuries, while another man managed to escape and alerted the police.
According to officials, nine people have been arrested so far in connection with the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
It was reported that Rayane was a candidate in local elections, and Rithiely had 87,000 followers on Instagram. The siblings, who came from a circus tradition family, were buried in Glória d'Oeste on Sunday.
