The trade war between the USA and China continues to escalate. Recently, China responded to Trump, who imposed a 104% customs duty on China.
"WE WILL NEVER BOW"
In a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated, "The USA is trying to exert pressure on China using tariffs. China will never bow to this bullying behavior."
WHAT HAPPENED?
On April 2, which President Trump referred to as "liberation day," he announced the reciprocal tariff rates that would be applied to other countries.
Trump stated that the basic tariff rate would be 10%, sharing the customs duty rates that vary by country, taking into account the tariffs and non-tariff barriers imposed by other countries.
In this context, it was anticipated that a 34% customs duty would be applied to imports from China.
China was the first country to react to the USA's tariff increases, announcing that it would impose an additional tariff of the same rate in response to the 34% tariff increase.
In response, Trump announced that if China did not withdraw the 34% customs duties it declared as retaliation against the reciprocal tariffs, they would impose an additional 50% tariff on the country.
Previously, on February 1, President Trump had also signed a decree imposing a 10% customs duty on imports from China, and on March 4, he raised the tariff rate on China to 20%.
With these developments, the tariff rate that the USA plans to apply to imports from China reaches 104%.
