The mother of the siblings who were killed in Sivas with their throats slit, Ayşegül Şimşek, spoke for the first time at her children's graveside. She expressed that she cannot bring her children back with her struggle, but she can ensure that the murderer receives the punishment he deserves. The grieving mother made a grave allegation, stating, "My husband went missing five years ago from his house. Maybe he was killed by him too. He was the last person my husband spoke to."
On May 6, in an apartment on 55th Street in Kılavuz Neighborhood, Sivas, siblings Umutcan (22) and national athlete Melisa Şimşek (16) were found murdered by their mother, with their throats slit. It was determined that Melisa Şimşek's hands were tied before her murder. Following the incident, police teams launched a large-scale operation to find the killer or suspects, and as a result of reviewing 25 hours of camera footage, murder suspect Hüseyin Sönmez (34) was captured in Ankara.
SIBLINGS MURDERED AND HOUSE ARREST COMMITTED
The second hearing of the case, which is being heard at the Sivas 4th High Criminal Court, took place on October 1. The defendant of the brutally committed murders, Hüseyin Sönmez, had a "request for house arrest and hospitalization in a mental health facility" stamped on it. Sönmez, who is thought to have committed the murder in Sivas after coming from Konya, denied the accusations despite all security camera footage and evidence.
CRITICAL CLAIM REGARDING THE MISSING FATHER
The grieving mother, Ayşegül Şimşek, who lost her two children in the brutally committed murder, spoke for the first time at their graves. Şimşek recalled that her husband, Uğur Şimşek, who has been missing for 5 years and has not been heard from, was last seen at the killer's house, suggesting that her missing husband may also have been killed by the murderer. The murder suspect claimed in his statement that Uğur Şimşek, who went missing 5 years ago, owed him 500,000 TL. Sönmez was briefly detained on suspicion of murder related to Şimşek's disappearance.
"HE CAME BACK AFTER 5 YEARS AND THIS TIME HE KILLED MY CHILDREN"
In her statement, mother Şimşek noted that the murder suspect was released after being detained for 6 months on suspicion of killing her husband 5 years ago when no body was found, saying, "My husband, who has been missing for 5 years, was last seen at his house 5 years ago. We have not heard from my husband since then. He came back after 5 years and this time he killed my children. He says, 'I didn't do it,' there are videos. In the videos, he wears a hat and glasses, so he says, 'I didn't do it, I was set up,' and writes scenarios. He requested his release, asked for house arrest, and wanted to be in a well-equipped hospital. He continues to deny, saying 'I am not the one.' He wants to get out by obtaining a mental health report, but he is the killer, we are sure. There are videos, there are witnesses," she said.
"WE KNOW THE MAN, WE SAW HIM ON TELEVISION FIRST"
Şimşek stated that they had only seen the suspect on a television program related to her missing husband, saying, "We don't know how he entered the house. We can't know because the children didn't live. He also broke their phones. This man must have a phone, and he must have someone he talks to. These need to be investigated and asked, but the man denies. Until he appeared in court, I had never seen the man's face. I heard his name on television 5 years ago. My husband had dealings with him 5 years ago. This person claims that he did business with my husband and that my husband defrauded him. In the police investigation, it was also found that my husband was last seen with him. My children and I have never seen this man, we do not know him, and we saw him for the first time on television," she said.
"HOW DOES HE KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT US?"
Şimşek, despite not knowing the suspect at all, claimed that he had researched and learned everything about them, saying, "I don't think he is alone. He comes so comfortably. How does he know everything about me, how does he find out, and where does he learn it? I had gone to the village for a walk on the day of the incident. When I returned, my mother and I found the children in that state. Afterwards, I called the police and my siblings. Thank God our state caught the killer in a short time. He was caught, but what happened was to my children," she said.
"HE STAYED INSIDE FOR 6 MONTHS AND KILLED MY CHILDREN WHEN HE GOT OUT"
Şimşek expressed that she cannot bring her children back with her struggle, but she can ensure that the killer receives the punishment he deserves, saying, "I cannot bring my children back, but I can ensure that this man receives the punishment he deserves. I had caught this man 5 years ago. If they hadn't released him, maybe my children would still be alive. I had filed a complaint 5 years ago, and when he was caught, he stayed inside for 6 months, but he got out and killed my children. This man blames me. He says, 'You called me to pay your debt.' I do not know him. How does he know me, how does he know everything about me? He denies everything in court. He says, 'I didn't do it, I came to Sivas, but I didn't go to them.' However, everything is clearly evident," she said.
"HE MAY HAVE KILLED MY HUSBAND TOO"
Şimşek suggested that her missing husband may have also been killed by the suspect, saying, "I had him arrested because my husband went missing at his house 5 years ago; maybe he did something because of that. I am filing a complaint again. That man is a killer; maybe he killed my husband too, maybe he is hiding it. If he didn't kill him, he has information. He was last seen with him. It is said that there was a financial transaction between them. I have never seen that much money together. I was working, struggling to make ends meet. I want justice; let everyone hear my voice. This person is trying to get a mental health report, claiming that he is not in his right mind," she said.
