The shocking news came from the Meram district of Konya. A baby found wrapped in a pillowcase in a trash container was taken for treatment. A CITIZEN HEARD A BABY'S CRY FROM THE CONTAINERThe incident occurred in the morning hours on Etem Street in the Kalfalar neighborhood of central Meram district. According to the information obtained, when the residents living on the street went out to throw away their trash, they heard a baby's cry from inside the trash container. Upon receiving a report about an abandoned baby at the 112 Emergency Call Center, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene. The baby, handed over to the health officials who arrived at the scene, was taken to Konya City Hospital by ambulance after the first intervention. It was learned that the baby's health condition was good after being examined here, and the baby will be kept under observation for 2 days. "THE BABY'S BODY TEMPERATURE WAS VERY LOW"Konya City Hospital Neonatologist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Beyza Özcan stated, "The baby was first brought to the emergency room by 112 and was then brought to us by the emergency team. Despite being brought in an incubator, the baby's body temperature was very low. Being found in the trash on this winter day had a significant impact. It arrived at 27 degrees, while our body temperature should not be below 36 degrees. The baby was quite cold; if it had been found a little later, it would have been in a much worse condition. We warmed it up, and now its general condition and activity have increased. When it first arrived, its activity was a bit lower, but now it has increased, and it shows a desire to suck. There are no issues found during the examination. Of course, we need to monitor it a bit. We do not know the pregnancy history of the baby. We do not know what the mother went through or how the baby was born. We need to follow up on whether the baby experienced any trauma. The tests currently look good. We have started feeding it. It does not need oxygen support. Our blood values have also started to improve as the body temperature increases. We will continue to monitor in this way. We have also contacted Social Services. Our hospital's Social Services Unit has made the necessary applications to the relevant places. The follow-up of our baby will continue in this way, but we will need to keep it under observation for a few days," she said. The police teams are continuing their efforts to capture those who abandoned the baby.
