Israel is experiencing a serious stock shortage of its "Arrow" defense missiles, which are used against long-range ballistic missile attacks that may come from Iran. This situation raises concerns that Israel's defense capacity may be insufficient in the event of increased tensions in the region. The United States has been trying to address this issue by providing various military support to Israel over the past few months.
According to a statement made to the Wall Street Journal by a senior American official, Israel is experiencing a serious stock shortage of its "Arrow" defense missiles, which it uses against long-range ballistic missile attacks that may come from Iran. This situation raises concerns that Israel's defense capacity may be insufficient if tensions in the region continue to escalate.
The official stated that the U.S. administration is aware of this issue and has been providing various military support to Israel over the past few months. In this context, it is reported that the U.S. is trying to strengthen Israel's air defense with defense systems deployed both on land, at sea, and in the air.
Following the escalation of conflicts in June, the Pentagon sent more missile defense systems to the region. However, it is now reported that both the U.S. and Israel are rapidly depleting the stocks of these preventive systems they use to neutralize missiles.
Tom Karako, who serves as the Director of the Missile Defense Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said the following regarding the issue:
"Neither the U.S. nor Israel can spend the whole day just trying to stop incoming missiles. Israel and its allies must take decisive and swift action urgently. This is not a war that can be won by merely remaining on the defense. Continuously waiting and responding to every missile is not sustainable."
On the other hand, Israel Aerospace Industries, the company that produces the Arrow defense systems, declined to comment on the matter. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated in a written statement:
"The Israeli army is prepared for any scenario. However, we cannot provide detailed information regarding our ammunition capacity or systems."
The Arrow defense system is considered one of Israel's most advanced defense lines against high-altitude and long-range missile threats from countries like Iran. The weakening of this system could create a significant vulnerability for the country's strategic security.
Experts emphasize that if the conflict continues to prolong, both Israel and the U.S. may struggle to renew their missile defense systems, and therefore, diplomatic solutions need to be accelerated.
