A woman who is a mother of two in England attacked her boyfriend's lover with a hammer during her pregnancy. The case, heard at Hull Crown Court, became a striking example of a jealousy crisis turning into a violent incident.
31-year-old Kirsty Allen approached the victim from behind and struck her in the face with a hammer during an incident that took place at the Fiveways Hotel in Hull last April. The moment was captured on security cameras.
According to prosecution records, Allen first spoke calmly with her rival on March 13. However, she later took a hammer to the bar and shouted, "I will kill you," before launching the attack. She was removed from the bar by bystanders intervening.
As a result of the attack, the victim suffered a depressed fracture in her cheekbone. The victim stated, "I never thought I would be the victim of such a brutal attack. I am afraid to be alone at home and I have to use sleeping pills."
Defense attorney Chaynee Hodgetts claimed that Allen learned she was being cheated on while pregnant with her now 15-month-old daughter and that the other woman "mocked" her. Allen also has an 11-year-old son.
Judge Mark Bury described the security camera footage as "shocking" and sentenced Allen to 18 months in prison. Court records also revealed that Allen had 11 previous convictions between 2008 and 2010.
Interestingly, it was learned that the woman who was the victim of the attack was also sentenced to 11 months in prison for another offense by the same judge in January.
