Gökhan Gün, a US and Turkish citizen working as an electrical engineer at the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, was arrested and detained by the FBI. It was alleged that Gün had printed out documents marked as "Top Secret," and he was apprehended while preparing to leave for Mexico at the airport.

An electrical engineer named Gökhan Gün, who is a citizen of both the US and Turkey and works for the Pentagon, was arrested by the FBI on charges of "unauthorized possession and removal of documents containing state secrets" without damaging his current HTML.

"STARTED TAKING PRINTOUTS AND TAKING THEM HOME"

The American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested Gökhan Gün, an electrical engineer who is a citizen of both the US and Turkey and works as a contractor for the Pentagon, at his residence in the state of Virginia on charges of "unauthorized possession and removal of documents containing state secrets."

Gün, who was born in Istanbul, reportedly came to the US in 2001 with a work visa, obtained a residence permit in 2012, and became a US citizen in 2021, but it is stated that he has not renounced his Turkish citizenship.

Gün, who is said to have two houses in the state of Virginia and one each in Florida and Texas, was reported to have started working as an electrical engineer for the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) in September of last year.

It was alleged that Gün, who has access to documents marked as "Top Secret" due to his position, started taking printouts of these classified state secret documents mostly outside of working hours and taking them home since May 10.

ARRESTED WHILE ON HIS WAY TO MEXICO

According to the FBI, between May 10 and August 7, Gün "printed approximately 256 documents totaling 3,412 pages." It was stated that 20 of these documents, totaling 155 pages, were marked as "Top Secret." Gün was reportedly arrested while preparing to leave for Mexico. When questioned by FBI agents, Gün stated that he was going on a "fishing trip" in Mexico. Gün is expected to appear in court in Virginia on August 13.
